Reception - Tataki Zome Printing!

Lesson: EYFS

Class: Reception Year: 2025 - 2026

We learnt about Tataki Zome, which is the ancient Japanese technique of "hammer dyeing" or "flower pounding" that directly transfers natural pigments from leaves and flowers onto fabric or paper. It involves hammering botanical materials with a mallet on a hard surface to release plant dyes, creating unique, artistic, and eco-friendly prints.

We collected flowers from the garden and used hammers to 'pound' the flowers and create colours onto paper. It was noisy but very fun!
